Russellville is a city in northwestern central Arkansas on the eastern banks of the Arkansas River. Interstate 40 runs through the city and connects it with Fort Smith in the west and Little Rock in the east. Both are about an hour away. Thomas Russell, a well-respected doctor, bought the first house in what is now Russellville from P.C. Hollendger in 1834. The town took its namesake from Russell and used its position on the river to become an important trade area as well as a place for cotton milling and wool carding in the mid-1800s.
The Arkansas River Valley, in which Russellville sits, is formed by the Ozark and Ouachita mountains. It's become a town that has a strong recreational and tourism economy as well as industrial.
