- Azalea Park is an unincorporated community that sits just outside of Orlando.
- It initially was used as an area that cattle herders could bring their livestock and let them rest and drink water in one of the nearby lakes.
- The community's land was given by state Sen. Walter Rose who had decided to place the piece of property aside to allow for the public to enjoy it.
- The community got its name from the mass number of azaleas that were planted in the park.
- Col. H.H. Dickinson was one of the earliest settlers to the area and was wealthy from his business pursuits and civic involvement. With some of his money he decided to beautify the area by planting many of the azaleas that now grow beautifully in the area today.
- One of the most notable features in the park is the Washington Street Bridge, which was built in 1926.
- Within the community is Dickson Azalea Park, a secluded patch of greenery with walking trails and picnic areas. During the Great Depression, this park was the first garden center for the Orlando Garden Club. It was maintained at the time by the Works Progress Administration.
