Lawrenceville may be best known for two pop culture references: In 1978, Hustler publisher Larry Flynt and his attorney were shot while at lunch during Flynt’s obscenity trail. The incident was fictionalized in the movie, The People vs. Larry Flynt (1996). Lawrenceville, including The Gwinnett Diner, also served as a filming location for the 2000 movie Road Trip.
Lawrenceville hosts the annual Rock N’ Rib Fest, as well as daily ghost tours, and is home to the Veterans Memorial Museum. It is also home to the Gwinnett Braves, the AAA affiliate for the Atlanta Braves. Both visitors and residents enjoy the lively downtown area featuring numerous cafes and shops. Downtown also holds a monument to boxing champion and local native Ezzard Charles.
