DeSoto is a growing suburb located south of Dallas and in the area known as the “Best Southwest.” The city is one of the oldest in Texas, with the first settlers arriving in 1847, although it was not officially incorporated until 1949. DeSoto maintained a small population up until the 1950s but has experienced significant growth since then. Since 2000, the population has grown 26 percent and now borders on 50,000 residents.
DeSoto offers businesses and residents lots of space to work and play. It was even named an All America City in 2006. The DeSoto Eagle Industrial and Business Park has hundreds of acres of offices, and the city’s Town Center Project – a mixed-use development with apartments, retail and office space – was completed in 2009. The project offers prime access to City Hall, the Corner Theatre, the library and the rest of downtown DeSoto. The city also houses 12 parks, including Metroplex BMX, the 60,000-square foot facility and the first covered BMX racing facility in the country. Windmill Hill Nature Preserve, another DeSoto park, covers 75 acres and was named the Best Urban Hiking Trail in Dallas in 2001. Roy Orr Trail is another popular DeSoto recreational destination. The trail is split into five sections, and combined they cover 3.6 miles. The city also offers residents access to aquatics via Moseley Pool.
