For some, Los Feliz and Los Angeles are one and the same. But renters in Los Feliz know their town carries its own distinction. Home to many celebrities, this town in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains has many homes for rent for all sorts of families.
History Surrounds Los Feliz Rental Homes
Los Feliz is named after a person who was largely responsible for Los Angeles and the surrounding areas' founding. His name was Jose Vicente Feliz and he was a soldier for the Spanish crown. Feliz's work in the 18th century as the area's mayor, law enforcer, commissioner and manager earned him a 6,600-acre plot of land that was granted to him by California's governor as a debt of gratitude.
Today, much of Los Feliz's acreage that isn't devoted to housing is actually devoted to Griffith Park and Observatory. The land stayed inside the Feliz family for over 100 years, but it was sold to Griffith J. Griffith in 1882. Four years later, Griffith donated over 3,000 acres of the land he purchased to the city of Los Angeles in the hopes that they would build a "great park" reminiscent of England's parks at the time.
And build they did. Today, one has to be living under a rock instead of inside a house to not know about Los Feliz's; Griffith Park. Thousands of visitors and home renters traverse the land of Los Feliz and enter the observatory to learn all about the cosmos and all that is therein.
