• Later on a railroad was built in the area, which was initially known as "Chicago and Rock Island."
• The water company was instrumental in helping take care of the disastrous Chicago fire that occurred in October 1871.
• Many industrial inventions were made and used in some of the many factories that sat in Marseilles.
