Walker is a residential community in southeast Louisiana near the intersection of routes 190 and 447, just southeast of Baton Rouge. These highways, along with Interstate 12 to the south, make Walker in a great location for short commutes to neighboring communities or longer trips to the capital or New Orleans, which is about an hour away. Homes for rent give parents the chance to raise their children in a community that has several schools as well as many other families nearby for play dates and dinner parties. Kids will also enjoy Punk Smith Park and Sidney Hutchinson Park, which feature baseball diamonds and athletic fields for organized and backyard sports.
Fun Facts for Future Renters
Walker was originally called Milton Old Field after being founded by Michael Milton, Martha Clark in 1825. The name Walker came from a politician, William Walker, who represented the area and died in the Civil War.
Walker officially became a town in 1909, and a city more than a century later in 2011.
Residents who are more interested in the city's history can take the kids and go to the Walker History Museum and Park at the corner of Walker South Road and Aydell Lane.
