October is National Pet Awareness Month
Is your pet healthy? October is National Pet Wellness Month. Sponsored by The American Veterinary Medical Association (AMVA) and Fort Dodge Animal Health, this campaign was designed in 2004 to help educate pet owners on preventive pet healthcare by promoting twice-a-year wellness exams for the life of your pet.
Did you know that dogs and cats age 7 times faster than humans? Because they age so rapidly, there are major health changes which can occur at a small period of time. As these pets age, they can experience health problems associated with aging – just as humans. The older your pet, the higher risk for diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, kidney disease, cancer and other serious conditions. You wouldn’t wait seven years to see your doctor for a checkup. So why wait a whole year to have your pet examined by a veterinarian?
Unfortunately, many pets don’t see their veterinarian as often as they should. Taking your dog or cat to the veterinarian twice-a-year will detect, treat, and sometimes prevent problems before they become life threatening. This is also the perfect time to receive important information about nutrition, behavior, dental health or other concerns. Your pet is family, and their health-care should be just as important as your own. Protect your best friend by scheduling a wellness exam today – a healthy pet is a happy pet!
