The town is full of married couples and single people, young professionals and retired citizens, making it a great place for mostly anyone looking for homes for rent in a laid-back community.
Interesting Facts About Collins
Collins was originally established in the early 1800s as Williamsburg, the then-seat of justice for Covington County. When the Gulf and Ship Island railroad was built in 1899, it missed Williamsburg by 2 miles. As the businesses and residents moved closer to the railroad, the town expanded. Its name was eventually changed to Collins in 1906.
Many notable people hail from Collins, such as film actor Dana Andrews, rock singer Dale Houston and NFL star Steve McNair.
After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Collins was "adopted" by the town Duryea, Penn., which experienced similar storm damage years earlier. The Duryea government raised funds for Collins, helping it to rebuild after the historic storm.
