Originally named Dumont, South Houston was incorporated in 1913. The town remained small until the 1940s, when its population began to grow rapidly. Much of that growth was facilitated by the completion of the Houston Ship Channel. Today, South Houston is home to more than 16,000 people.
South Houston is adjacent to Pasadena, Texas, which holds a number of outdoor recreational opportunities, including sports fields and five swimming pools.
