Mount Greenwood is a community area located just outside of the city of Chicago. It's approximately 30 minutes to downtown, and one of only 77 community areas throughout the state. This community is a great place for homes for rent. The region is known for its initial influx of Irish settlers, who made the area historically known for its Irish pubs, restaurants and culture. Two notable pubs that families can check out in the region are McDuffy's and Hinky Dinky's Pub.

• During the 19th century, Chicago welcomed in many different cultures and immigrants. The spike in population caused a need for a cemetery. A new burial ground was established on farmland by a local resident by the name of George Waite. The cemetery was named Mount Greenwood. As the grounds filled, more were built around it.
• In these days, funerals lasted all day and included family gathering to share a meal. So, many saloons and restaurants were established near the grounds for families to dine at after the event. With the presence of all these saloons, the area became known for its rowdiness. To calm things down, the land was annexed in 1907 and chartered into a village.
• The village was independent for more than 20 years. By 1927, the residents decided to add streetlights and paved roads to the region. However, the Great Depression struck and all construction was put on hold. Mount Greenwood regained momentum after the end of World War II, when many people moved to the area. Many of these settlers were of an Irish Catholic descent, influencing the businesses and restaurants that came into the village. Today, there are still many religious educational institutions in the area.
