Mandan is a city on Interstate 94 and the Missouri River. It lies directly west of Bismarck, the state capital, on the other side of the river. Mandan is the seventh most populous city in the state and the county seat for Morton County. The city has mainly residential neighborhoods, but the Tesboro oil refinery and BNSF Mandan Rail Yard anchor a strong industrial sector. Aside from its growing economy, homes for rent in Mandan are also great for families because of outdoor recreation areas like Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park and venues like the Pepsi All Seasons Arena.
Important Information for Future Renters
Mandan became heavily settled after the Northern Pacific Railroad crossed the Missouri River at Bismarck. The city was founded in 1881 and the railroad bridge was completed in 1883. Since then, Mandan, along with Bismarck, have been commercially important areas in both North Dakota and the Great Plains region.
Mandan is named for the Native Americans of the same name who once inhabited the area. Their area was at the east end of the city's current boundaries.
