Watford City is a rapidly growing community in western North Dakota. On routes 85 and 200, Watford City is near the entrance to Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Important Information for Future Renters
The Bakken oil field was named for Henry Bakken, who found the geological formation on his land. Oil was first found in the formation in 1951, but in 2003 a horizontal well yielded great results and started the modern boom. Bakken spans western North Dakota, eastern Montana as well as parts of Canada. People have said it may hold 4 billion barrels of oil.
Watford City, as with many other locations in North Dakota, was built in anticipation of a railroad coming through the region. Today it's also home to the Watford City Municipal Airport.
McKenzie County School District serves the children of Watford City. The Wolves have both strong academics and athletics, and compared to other towns in the rural region, Watford City families are near the schools.
