Sand City is surrounded on three sides by the city of Seaside. The fourth side is 1.5 miles of beach on the Pacific Ocean. The area is known for its shopping and recreation and has a growing community of artists that live in the West End. Recreational opportunities aren't just limited to the many beaches. Paragliding is very popular, and the Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail goes through the area. Two shopping centers in the city are the Edgewater Shopping Center and the Sand Dollar Shopping Center. This area is great for families looking for homes for rent in a coastal location.
Facts for Renters
In the summer, the community of artists in Sand City comes together for the West End Celebration. The festival has multiple stages and dozens of bands playing throughout the weekend. Artists exhibit their works at galleries and booths. Many artisans also set up vendor shops where residents can buy unique handmade items.
Sand City has California's largest sand dunes. They cover over 40 square miles and stretch all the way down to Monterey Bay. These formed during the end of the last ice age during a time known as the Pleistocene era. The dunes are anywhere between 6,000 and 15,000 years old.
Sand City got its name from the abundance of sand in the area, which was mined before the city was incorporated and environmental protection measures for the area were passed.
