The city is named for Robert Driscoll. Driscoll was a lawyer and rancher in the region who was well known for his support of and involvement in the the port of Corpus Christi. He ran the Corpus Christi National Bank, the Corpus Christi Trust Company, the International Refining Company of San Antonio and was the chairman of the port of Corpus Christi port when he died.
Robstown was first founded in 1906 by a real estate developer before booming in population in the 1930s with oil being discovered and farming expanding. Now, there are a number of industrial companies that call Robstown home.
