The modern incarnation of Pearl River developed after the Northeastern and Poitevent and Favre's East Louisiana Railroads came to the town and businesses began being built in the late 1800s.
Two hundred citizens from Pearl River petitioned to become a town in 1898. Within eight years they were officially a town.
