Sioux Falls is South Dakota's most populous city. It's located in the southeast corner of the state, very close to Minnesota and Iowa. Two of the most important interstate highways in the region, I-29 and 1-90, intersect in Sioux Falls. These interstates give Sioux Falls residents an easy drive to Mitchell in the west and Sioux City, Iowa, to the south. In addition to their stellar regional location, homes for rent in Sioux Falls allow families a chance to live in a unique city.
Much of the city is shaped by the Big Sioux River. Its banks have been turned into a connected system of parks, which are perfect for families to explore. The city is mostly residential neighborhoods except for the fun commercial downtown between Russell Street and Route 42. The city is also home to Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center, University of Sioux Falls, the Old Courthouse Museum and dozens of other attractions.
Important Information for Future Renters
Although many famous explorers had noted the area and the waterfalls on the river before, no effort was made to settle Sioux Falls until 1856. Several groups settled the area because they saw the potential for water power. In the 1880s, the population of Sioux Falls quintupled and was officially made a city just before South Dakota became a state.
Sioux Falls has kept up this traditional population boom and is one of the fastest growing communities in the U.S. today.
