One of the fastest growing cities in Texas is Pearland, which is ideally situated 17 miles south of Houston and just outside the Sam Houston Tollway perimeter. Pearland was established in 1894, and settlers came by and for the railroad that went straight through the town. In addition to the railroad, the city became an agricultural hub in the early 20th century. The train depot shut down in the 1970s, and just two decades ago Pearland had only 19,000 residents. Today, however, it is home more than 90,000 people.
Pearland has an abundance of recreational opportunities to offer residents of houses for rent in Pearland. The city has a total of eight parks covering 136 acres. The two largest -- Independence Park and Centennial Park -- are community parks and cover a combined 96 acres. Some of the amenities available at the two parks include lighted softball fields, soccer fields, lighted tennis courts, basketball courts, playgrounds, jogging trails and picnic areas. Additionally, Pearland rental homes offer access to several lakes, including Lake Silverlake and Crystal Lake. There are also golf courses in the area, such as Golfcrest County Club and Silverlake Golf Course.
In addition to its proximity to the fourth largest city in the country and the high quantity of advanced-level business opportunities available there, Pearland is also close to some other hubs of activity. Skyway Manor Airport is located just west of the city, and Pearland Regional Airport lies southeast of downtown.
