Located just 22 miles northeast of Dallas in the smallest county in Texas is Rockwall, a town of more than 30,000 people, known for its shopping, parks and lake-based recreation. Downtown Rockwall offers high-quality shopping, antiques, furniture and dining. The farmers market each Saturday morning also draws a large crowd, as do the Founder's Day celebration and the Aspasians Art Fair. The Harbor, the 38-acre development on the shores of Lake Ray Hubbard and accessible by boat, is another popular destination, offering shopping, a movie theater, restaurants and a music venue.
Named after a geological rock wall in the area, Rockwall was first settled in the mid-19th century. It grew slowly for more than 100 years but has become one of the fastest-growing communities in the area in recent decades, largely thanks to Lake Hubbard, which was built in 1969. Today, Rockwall features 19 parks encompassing 330 acres, as well as four marinas and three public boat ramps. One of the most used outdoor facilities is Chandler's Landing Yacht and Tennis Club, which is located on the eastern shore of the lake.
If you prefer more indoor activity, Rockwall has a number of excellent restaurants to choose from. Check out Agave, a restaurant and tequila bar, Cotton Patch or Gloria's. Or, for food and indoor fun in the same place, try Shenaniganz, which features laser tag, video games and more, in addition to great food.
Houses for rent in Rockwall are available in a variety of excellent neighborhoods. The Shores Country Club is an extremely popular area for Rockwall rental homes. If you're looking for homes for rent in Rockwall close to downtown, try Riding Club Estates or Woodcreek. Or, if you prefer a more country lifestyle, check out Lakeview Summit.
