Mission Viejo is a massive preplanned and picturesque community near Irvine and Lake Forest. With the Santa Ana Mountains in the background and Lake Mission Viejo in the foreground, the community is breathtaking. There are many parks in the community, including Jeronimo Open Space Park, Castille Park and Mission Viejo Youth Athletic Park.   • In the 1960s, people foresaw the spread of Los Angeles' urbanization northward and planned ahead. Richard O'Neill bought much of the land in the area in 1907. By the '60s, his grandchildren had worked together to create a 10,000 {what?} master-planned community, which is modern-day Mission Viejo. It's considered one of the largest master-planned communities in the U.S. 
  • The city has been named one of the safest in the U.S. because of low crime rates. 
  • Mission Viejo is a popular spot for cycling because of its many paths and hills. In 1984, when the Olympics were in LA, the cycling events were held in Mission Viejo.
