Famous filmmaker and screenwriter George Lucas is a long-time resident of San Anselmo. He's most famous for his Indiana Jones and Star Wars franchises. The Star Wars films were primarily written in a renovated Victorian house in town that Lucas and his wife called "Parkhouse." There are now statues of Yoda and Indiana Jones in Imagination Park in the town.
San Anselmo was originally used for pastoral purposes by the early European settlers, but in 1874 a railroad was built in the town and it became known as a junction. The San Francisco Theological Seminary was built in 1892 and brought prosperity to the the area. The seminary is still active today.
