Alpharetta is a suburb of Atlanta, located about 25 miles north of the city. The town of about 60,000 people has experienced significant growth over the last several decades, including the creation of almost 70,000 jobs in the last five years. Alpharetta used to be seat of Milton County, which was adjacent to Atlanta's Fulton County. But Milton joined with Fulton to avoid bankruptcy during The Great Depression, and Alpharetta has since served as a hub of northern Fulton. The town currently holds offices for Hewlett-Packard, UPS, RedPrarie, Radiant Systems, IBM, AT&T, Verizon and General Electric, among others. Altogether, Alpharetta homes for rent are near more than 3,600 businesses, many of which are located in popular North Point Mall.
Culturally, Alpharetta offers both residents and visitors wide varieties of activities and attractions. The Alpharetta Arboretum at Wills Park features 26 kinds of trees. The new Verizon Wireless Amphitheater at Encore Park seats 12,000 and has already hosted the Dave Matthews Band, Kenny Chesney and Stevie Wonder. It is also one of the two homes of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. The Walk of Memories features the names of all of the Georgians killed in service from World War II onward, and the Alpharetta Big Creek Greenway is an extensive trail for walking, biking and playing. Alpharetta hosts numerous festivals, including the Old Milton Country Fair, the Crossroads at Crabapple Antique and Arts Festival, the Scarecrow Harvest, the Alpharetta Arts StreetFest and the Old Soldiers Day Parade and Road Race.
